Third Division: Brazil's late strike gives Berwick a share of points in top of table clash

The top of the table Third Division clash between leaders Berwick and second placed Stranraer ended 2-2 at Shielfield with home substitute Alan Brazil grabbing a late equaliser.

Darren Gribben had fired the hosts ahead in the first half with another fine goal, but Scott Agnew levelled from the penalty spot 11 minutes into the second half after he had been fouled by Steve Notman, who was sent off.

Sean Winter put the Blues a goal up as well as a man up 10 minutes later and it looked like Stranraer were sailing into top spot until Brazil tapped in from close range with just two minutes left.

Both managers were delighted afterwards, with Berwick's Jimmy Crease saying, "We needed to battle in this game and we showed that we had the character to do that."

Stair Park boss Keith Knox added: "We got back into things with the penalty and Berwick going down to 10 men. It would have been great to keep the lead and go top but we are unbeaten in six games and I cannot complain too much."

Annan moved into third spot after winning 2-0 at Clyde in the first league meeting between the sides with Bryan Gilfillan and Bryan Felvus scoring either side of half time.

Galabank manager Harry Cairney was pleased that his men bounced back after losing last weekend to Elgin saying, "We were much more like ourselves in this game and it is good to move up the table but we will need to work hard to stay there."

Albion Rovers and then Arbroath follow Annan after the sides drew 1-1 at Gayfield where Steven Doris cancelled out a goal from the visiting Robert Love. Arbroath player/manager Paul Sheerin is delighted to have the former St Johnstone player available to him, saying: "Steven took his goal well and there is more to come from him as he is not yet fully fit."

Rovers boss Paul Martin said: "We seem to be back into the habit of losing late goal and that is disappointing."

Queen's Park ended a tricky spell of six straight defeats by defeating East Stirling 2-0 at Hampden, with Jamie Longworth and Craig Smith both netting first-half goals for the Spiders.

"It is a bit of relief after a disappointing run," said Hampden head coach Gardner Speirs. "We deserved to win and the front two of Jamie Longworth and Craig Smith linked together really well."
