Honduran midfielder Jorge Claros, nicknamed The Pitbull, is flying into Glasgow for a trial with Rangers. The Motagua player, who has made a full recovery after suffering a gunshot wound during a carjack last year, is an international team-mate of Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre. Claros, 26, said: “Several months ago I was close to dying because of the accident I had, but now in a few months I will be a father. I think I have been blessed by God.” (Sun)

Another player who could be set to join the SPL champions is Estonian international Enar Jaager. The experienced right-back arrived in Glasgow last night as he prepared for a week-long trial at Murray Park. He said that, despite his 84 caps for his country, joining Rangers would be “the biggest step” in his career. (Record)

Meanwhile, Mervan Celik has promised to give Rangers boss Ally McCoist an answer on the club’s transfer offer before the end of the week. The Swedish under-21 cap is also wanted by Fulham and Middlesborough, and his agent said that Celik is just making sure he chooses the right club. (Record)

Celtic midfielder Kris Commons insists a price cannot be put on Gary Hooper because the striker is priceless to the Parkhead club’s title ambitions. With Southampton among a host of clubs monitoring the English forward, Commons said: “I just believe he’s a top top forward, and is a joy to play with every week. He’s a natural goalscorer.
