Thanks from Tynecastle

Capital youth football club Tynecastle have donated £1800 to the hospital ward that treated a long-serving team stalwart before he succumbed to cancer last year.

Tynie staged a cabaret evening last year in memory of Jimmy Lynch, then donated the proceeds of 1,800 to the Western General's ward 4 in a mark of their gratitude for the work of medical staff.

Club chairman Dougie Dalgleish said, "The work that this ward does is truly remarkable and at the Tynecastle Football Club we are only to pleased to be able to assist in some small way. The cheque for 1,800 handed over on Friday was gratefully received by the ward.

Before the start of this season, Tynie paid tribute to club stalwart Lynch by launching an initiative thought to be a first for the sport. During this campaign, players of all Tynecastle youth teams have worn the name of Jimmy Lynch on their shirts instead of a sponsor, following the passing of the club's long-serving former administrator and secretary last month.

Lynch lost his fight with cancer after decades dedicated to serving youth football in the capital, most notably at Tynie but also at Royston Rosemary Cavalry Park and Salvesen Boys Club, also serving for a time as secretary of the governing East Region Youth Football Association. Ward 4 is delighted with Tynecastle's donation. To help fund the hard work of hospital staff, contact Suzie Flowers on 0131 537 1000.
