There was further Scottish success when Glasgow's Maia Lumsden continued her impressive run to the semis of the under-14 singles with an up and down victory over Dorset's Hannah Gamage, winning 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.

Maia, who now faces the top seed, Nottingham's Freya Christie, for a place in tomorrow's final was generally happy with how she played, saying: "I played really well in the first set before I let it drop a little in the second, but I managed to pull it back in the third to take the match. The clay surface really suits my game as it allows me to out-rally my opponents and generate a lot of spin off the surface."

Coached by Toby Smith who has just been named Aegon LTA coach of the month, Maia added: "I've played Freya quite a few times before and she hits the ball hard so I'll have to try and move her around the court." Scotland's last two remaining hopefuls in the boys 18 and under ITF event, Jonny O'Mara (Arbroath) and Sam Macneil (Dunfermline), both exited the tournament during the quarter-finals, as did Largs' Ross-Tiree Wilson in the Tennis Europe 14 and under event.
