Tennis: Smith and Sterk shine at Westburn

Over 40 children in the north east of Scotland have taken part in three events aimed at improving their skills.

The day started off with a mini tennis red NESLTA tour event at Westburn Tennis Centre. The players were split into two round robin groups of eight and Ewan Smith won all seven of his matches in group A, while in group B Rosie Sterk was undefeated.

Cults Tennis Club hosted the orange and green events. In the orange event,Simon Kierwiak was the overall winner, while Patrick Young proved too strong for Fin Pearson in the final of the green event.

North-east coach Vikki Paterson said: "It's great to see so many children competing.This is the 11th mini tennis red tour event thatI have run this year and the standard of play just gets better and better."
