Tennis: Nitty-gritty for East teams

Both East of Scotland tennis teams are facing decisive clashes today at opposite ends of their respective groups as the AEGON summer county cup reaches a climax.

A second successive victory for the men, by 5-4 against Dorset, sees them require a win over Derbyshire that would guarantee retaining their place in group two.

For the women, in group five, the prize at the end of a meeting with Somerset would be promotion following a comfortable 8-1 win over Staffordshire.

Going into the final round of their latest match 4-2 ahead East men clinched the spoils through Alan Macdonald and Steve McGuckin.

Star performers for the women were Mhairi Brown and Aileen Davis who conceded a mere four games throughout their matches.
