Tennis: Mikheeva in key role

Edinburgh tennis prospect Anastasia Mikheeva has played a key role in helping Britain's 12 and under girls' team qualify for the finals of the prestigious Europe Nations Cup in Corsica next week (August 4-7).

Playing at No.1 in a three-strong team, Anastasia, from Duddingston, won all four singles matches against Poland, Bulgaria, Netherlands and Denmark as well as enjoying some doubles successes.

EAST women, represented by Lorna Lettice (David Lloyd, Corstorphine) as well as Lindsay Watt, Wendy Scott and captain Eileen Gillespie, all from Murrrayfield, finished third in the inaugural Scottish inter-county veterans' competition at Craiglockhart.

BRAID enjoyed a clean sweep of men's titles at the East Lothian Open. The women's doubles went to Dunfermline pair Zoe Henderson and Fiona Reid.
