Tennis: Mikheeva in key role

Edinburgh tennis prospect Anastasia Mikheeva has played a key role in helping Britain's 12 and under girls' team qualify for the finals of the prestigious Europe Nations Cup in Corsica next week (August 4-7).

Playing at No.1 in a three-strong team, Anastasia, from Duddingston, won all four singles matches against Poland, Bulgaria, Netherlands and Denmark as well as enjoying some doubles successes.

• EAST women, represented by Lorna Lettice (David Lloyd, Corstorphine) as well as Lindsay Watt, Wendy Scott and captain Eileen Gillespie, all from Murrrayfield, finished third in the inaugural Scottish inter-county veterans' competition at Craiglockhart.

• BRAID enjoyed a clean sweep of men's titles at the East Lothian Open. The women's doubles went to Dunfermline pair Zoe Henderson and Fiona Reid.
