Tennis: MacDonald the top seed

Four members of the current East of Scotland men's tennis team are in the field for next week's district closed championships at Craiglockhart.

Top seed is Alan MacDonald but the Thistle player faces strong competition from US university student Sam MacNeil as well as Anglo Stewart Crerar and Blackhall teenager Euan McIntosh. Favourite for the women's event is Duns' Suzanne Dixon. The tournament also features an extensive junior programme.

This includes the boys' under-18 singles which sees Patrick Baker (Braid), winner of last month's East Lothian Open seniors tournament at North Berwick, fancied in a field that also contains Scott Duncan, holder of the Waverley junior Open title and his Barnton Park colleague Lloyd Greatorix-Watson, who is top seed in the under-16 event.
