Tennis: Eastern promise for Devine

Edinburgh tennis starlet Emma Devine is today off to Turkey to try to gain entry to the official women's world ranking list.

The Portobello 16-year-old needs just one more ranking point to earn a status that would guarantee automatic entry to a host of tournaments without having to go through qualifying.

Devine said: "To reach the ranking list it is necessary to pick up a total of three points from three separate tournaments.

"My first two points in a 10,000 challenger tour event similar to this one in Turkey came from an event in Sunderland and I followed up with another point in Wrexham when I beat the world No 700.

"I also hope to contest the next junior Wimbledon title."
