Tennis: East Women serve up one change

East of Scotland women will make one change with Sonia Vickers replacing Liana Park, who is resting a minor strain, when they bid to move a step closer to promotion from Group Four of the AEGON county tennis cup today against Nottinghamshire.

Captain Mhairi Brown's team made it three wins out of three when thrashing Cambridgeshire 8-1 to put themselves within touching distance of going up.

Partnered by Emma Devine, the captain gave a strong lead in winning all three matches for the loss of just eight games overall while Leigh Kasperek stepped in to partner Liana Park and claimed two wins.

Completing the rout with a hat-trick were Aisha Kerr and Sarah Mcfadyen.

There was disappointment for East men who lost 3-6 to Cheshire and now start a survival battle in Group Two against South Wales who did, however, lose earlier in the week to a Warwickshire side overcome by Edinburgh coach Alan MacDonald's team.

Meanwhile, the East Lothian Open at North Berwick saw co-organiser Phil Reid reach the quarters in a marathon 7-5, 3-6, 16-14 win over Martin Smith. Also through are top seed Scott Lister and Barnton Park teenager Lloyd Greatorex-Watson.

One shock yesterday saw mixed doubles second seeds Scott and Samanatha Lister beaten by unseeded Border pair Joanna Dixon (Duns) and Michael McGee (Peebles).
