Tennis: East men grab lifeline

East of Scotland tennis men have grabbed a lifeline as they battle to remain in Division Two of the AEGON summer county cup at Cromer.

Inspired by three wins from captain Ross Murdoch and Graeme Dyce, East defeated Yorkshire 5-4 and now play Dorset.

Providing back-up with a win apiece were Steve McGuckin and Alan Macdonald along with the Sam McNeill-James McKie combination.

There was a setback for East women who went down 4-5 to Northumberland at Havant - their first defeat of the week. However, skipper Mhairi Brown returns against Staffordshire today.

Double winners for the East against the Geordies were Sarah Mcfadyen and Liana Park as well as Aileen Davis and Katie Rowley.
