Tennis: Donald Young says sorry for Twitter rant

American tennis player Donald Young has apologised to the US Tennis Association for an obscenity-laced message he posted on Twitter.

Last week, Young - who recently enjoyed a shock win over Andy Murray at Indian Wells - claimed he was sick of the treatment he received from the USTA, after losing in the final of a tournament that awarded the organisation's wild-card entry into the French Open.

"Basically, I want to just apologise for what I said and the way I said it," said the 21-year-old. I appreciate the USTA's support over the years. I'm ready to turn the page. I'm proud to be an American player and I need the USTA's help in my career."

Young recently won a lower-level tournament in Tallahassee, Florida, that put him inthe world's top 100 - enough for automatic entry into the French. But his ranking didn't officially rise to 95 until a week after the closing date for Roland Garros.

The USTA receives wild-card entries for the men's and women's draws at the French and can use them however it pleases but Young was forced him to play in the wild-card tournament in Florida. Young said his frustration grew out of "a miscommunication of what I thought and what they thought" would happen with the wild card.
