Tennis: Brown ready to face Babos

EDINBURGH'S Mhairi Brown today has an opportunity to boost ranking points as well as reach the second round of the AEGON Pro-Series tennis tournament at Craiglockhart when facing Hungary's Timea Babos, the third seed, defending champions and world No.511.

Brown, 28, whose goal is a Commonwealth Games place later this year, beat Cassidy Crawford (Staffs) 6-3, 6-2.

Brown said: "I am pleased (but) didn't think I played my best. I rallied well, mixed up the pace and spin."

On Babos, she said: "She won this tournament last year but I am comfortable now that I have a game under my belt."

Aberdeen's Joanna Henderson, 16, lost 1-6, 2-6 to the top seed Jocelyn Rae (Notts).
