Tennis: Alexandra out to hunt down Waverley title

Alexandra HUNTER (David Lloyd tennis team, Edinburgh), who recently went through an
inter-county cup weekend unbeaten for East girls, is strongly tipped to fight off strong challenges from England in both under-14 and under-16 events when the 21st Waverley Junior Tennis Open gets under way on Sunday.

The tournament, which helped launch the careers of the likes of Andy and Jamie Murray as well as Colin Fleming and Elena Baltacha, has attracted a massive entry of 361 hopefuls.

The finals are on Friday April 5 at the Suffolk Road courts and others expected to be in strong contention include 2012
winners Robbie Croll (David Lloyd) and Matthew Grieve (Mortonhall), alongside David Holmes (Dunfermline),
Alexander Ralston and Calum Bowmaker (Linlithgow).

Scotland’s 2010 Commonwealth games tennis team
manager, Pete Nicolson, will referee.
