Team bosses put the V-brake on Cavendish

MARK Cavendish was this weekend ruing Thursday's two-fingered salute to critics after being withdrawn from the Tour de Romandie by his HTC-Columbia team.

The 24-year-old Briton, who has had a poor start to the season, celebrated victory on stage two of the Swiss race with the gesture.

Cavendish, who has apologised to fans, was also fined 6,000 Swiss francs (3,644) by officials. His HTC team-mate Michael Rogers leads the race ahead of today's final stage.
