Tazeez at ease in Darley Stakes

TAZEEZ shone at Newmarket when he made it three wins from as many starts on the Rowley Mile with a ready success in the Richard Hambro Darley Stakes.

The John Gosden-trained 3-1 favourite travelled kindly for Richard Hills, and always appeared to have the race under control. Steele Tango came out of the pack to finish three-quarters of a length away in second, while last year's St Leger hero Mastery ran a fine race to finish third on his first since the Dubai Carnival in March.

Gosden said: "He's a Cambridgeshire winner and that's the same track and trip as this race. He's got a lot of tactical speed and is a six-year-old who loves travelling. We've got a couple of options to think about in America and Hong Kong."

Argocat and Frankie Dettori swooped late to deny hot favourite El Muqbil in the EBF Anglo Hibernian Bloodstock Insurance Maiden Stakes.

The latter travelled strongly for Hills, and looked the likely winner when mastering Splendid Light inside the final furlong. But Argocat, Paul Cole's 11-1 shot, quickly went in pursuit and gradually reeled him in to get up by a head.

Dettori then won the Bet At Bluesq.com Houghton Conditions Stakes as Brian Meehan's Mantoba (8-1) turned in an impressive display, then brought home the hat-trick on Saeed bin Suroor's Modeyra (13-2) in the Lanwades Stud Severals Stakes.

Dettori, who has been at the peak of his powers this season, then wrapped up a sensational day in the saddle when Willing Foe (11-10) won the Blue Square Bet Handicap for the four-timer.
