Tansey hits a hat-trick as Musselburgh go through

A HAT-TRICK from Paul Tansey saw Musselburgh progress to the next round of the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup against a plucky Broughty side with an early goal and two in the last five minutes. Athletic scored in the opening minute when the striker fired low past the keeper from 12 yards.

Musselburgh created several more chances in the first half but home keeper Cormack pulled off some fine saves.

In the second half, Broughty had a lot of pressure and they thought they had equalised following a free-kick. Fortunately for the Burgh, however, the referee adjudged that there had been an infringement in the lead up. Ten minutes from time, home skipper Lee Bertie was sent off for a second yellow card and, having wasted several good chances, Musselburgh wrapped up the victory five minutes from time when Mattie King played a defence-splitting pass into the path of Tansey who ran on to place the ball past the advancing keeper. Then, in the final minute, the Burgh front man ran from the halfway line to complete his hat-trick and the victory for Musselburgh.
