Tam wants U-21 strikers to snuff out Azerbaijan hopes

SCOTLAND Under-21 defender Tam Scobbie is encouraged by the form of the squad ahead of tonight's UEFA qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Billy Stark's side won 4-0 in Baku in their previous Group 10 clash and have goalscorers hitting peak form.

Jamie Murphy has scored the winner in Motherwell's last two games while strike partner David Goodwillie has netted six goals in 11 games for Dundee United.

Chris Maguire has struck three times in five games since joining Kilmarnock on loan while Dundee striker Leigh Griffiths has scored consistently throughout the season, with 17 goals to his name.

"Jamie Murphy has been brilliant and David Goodwillie has been scoring a lot of goals, he is a really good player," Scobbie said.

"Obviously we have got goals in the squad and quite a bit of experience as well. Pretty much every single one of us has been playing first-team football, even Caddy (Paul Caddis) the skipper has been playing right-back for Celtic.

"That gives us a boost knowing we are going in week in week out and playing for first teams."

The young Scots can go top of the group with victory at the Falkirk Stadium and will be confident after their performance in the away fixture. But Stark is wary that their opponents will be strengthened. "It's worth noting they had a few eligible under-21s away with the full national team last time round and they'll be available this week. We know what we have to do."
