Tales from the tabs: Fans in driving seat

AWAY from referee controversy, but not Glasgow's big two, Old Firm fans are being given the chance to buy their heroes' cast-off cars at a bargain price, the Sun reports.

Celtic and Rangers players are given new cars every six months as part of a sponsorship deal, and the used vehicles can now be bought for 6,000 less than a new model, with only around 3,000 miles on the clock.

"We know which player or manager drives which particular car,'' Lomond Audi spokesman Mark Duncan said.

"So supporters can ask to buy, for example, Madjid Bougherra or Scott Brown's motor."

In the Daily Mirror is the news that Birmingham and Scotland striker James McFadden could be back playing before the end of the season.

McFadden suffered a cruciate ligament injury in training last month and it was initially feared that he would be out for six months. However, his manager Alex McLeish says: "He's progressed very well. Will he back before the end of the season? He could be."

The Daily Mail reports that Scotland's third-choice scrum-half Mike Blair is in the running to face New Zealand later this month.
