Table Tennis: Murrayfield miss out on Merchi scalp

Murrayfield 1 skipper Colin Dalgleish was left rueing a missed chance as his team narrowly failed to inflict a rare defeat on North Merchiston 1 in their Edinburgh table tennis league top-of-the-table clash.

Murrayfield started the better with Steven Fowler on form as he beat Stewart Armitage 3-0 before Dalgleish pipped David Atkins 3-2, to lead 2-0.

North Merchiston fought back, taking the next four games for 4-2 with the experienced Willie Mabon in good form. It was then Murrayfield's turn to seize the momentum as they took the next three matches for a 5-4 lead.

In the final match, Armitage edged out Dalgleish for an entertaining 5-5 draw.
