Swimming: Scots trio to swim for Team GB in Poland

THREE Scottish school pupils – Mark Szaranek (Auchmuty High School), Megan Briggs (Mary Erskine’s School) and Lucy Hope (Jedburgh Grammar) – have been selected to compete for Team GB at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Poland in July.

Next week, all three will be competing much closer to home at the Scottish Gas National Age-Group Championships at Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth Pool.

The Championships will also include Olympians Caitlin McClatchey, Keri-anne Payne and Craig Benson.

“The fact that there are over 900 competitors speaks volumes about the importance of this event,” said Ally Whike, Performance Director of Scottish Swimming. “The quality of young swimmers coming through the pathway continues to be high which bodes well for the future.”

For the past two years, Lucy has won the top award in her age-group at Brodies Scottish Schools’ Championships – and Mark and Megan were both medalists at East Kilbride in January.
