Swimming: Robbie Renwick suffers surprise loss to Ross Davenport in Manchester

Scotland's Robbie Renwick, the Commonwealth Games Champion, suffered a shock defeat from England's Ross Davenport in the 200m freestyle at the British Gas Championships in Manchester.

Winner of the 400m freestyle on the first day, the City of Glasgow 22-year-old trailed in third at halfway and couldn't quite fight back and so missed out on automatic selection for the World Championships in Shanghai this summer.

Davenport, the 2006 Commonwealth Champion, won in 1:48.34 with Renwick second in 1:48.52. Aberdonian David Carry was third in 1:49.92 and the two Scots should make the GB relay squad for Shanghai.

In the rarely swum women's 1500m freestyle, Kerri-Anne Payne set a stunning new British record of 16:06.67, over six second inside the previous mark held by City of Glasgow's Rebecca Cooke.
