Swimming: Miley sets sights on Games

HANNAH MILEY was refusing to bask in the glory of her European Championship heroics in Budapest after eyeing up a repeat showing at October's Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old clocked 2:11.98 minutes in the 200m butterfly heats - with only red tape blocking her path to the semi-finals.

Miley's time was good enough to reach the evening session but she was beaten to Britain's two allotted qualification places by Ellen Gandy and Jemma Lowe.

However, after claiming 400m medley gold and 200m medley and 4x200m freestyle relay bronze, the Garioch swimmer said she had exceeded all expectations on Margaret Island.

"I can't believe how this week has gone because it is something that I have always ever only dreamed about," she said.

Rebecca Adlington and Fran Halsall ensured Great Britain brought the curtain down on the final night of the competition in style as both found their way to the top of the podium.

Adlington clinched 400m freestyle gold while Halsall, who also claimed 50m freestyle bronze, and swam the butterfly leg of the 4x100m medley relay (with Amy Smith, Gemma Spofforth and Kate Haywood) to clinch her fourth and fifth medals in Hungary.

Great Britain finished the week with 18 medals - six of each colour. All in all, Britain claimed five medals on the final night in Budapest as Haywood also claimed 50m breaststroke silver while Ellen Gandy took bronze in the 200m butterfly.n British Gas is the Principal Partner of British Swimming, and have pledged 15m to support the sport at all levels, from paddling pool to podium.
