Swimming: Miley makes a winning return home

Hannah Miley made it a golden hat-trick and Robbie Renwick completed a victory double on the opening day of the British Gas Scottish Short-course Championships at Tollcross Leisure Centre in Glasgow.

Making their first home appearances since winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October, Miley showed great early-year form by taking the 200m individual medley, 200m butterfly and 100m freestyle, while Renwick struck gold in the 50m and 400m freestyle.

Miley did miss out on the defence of one title when Edinburgh University's Kathryn Johnstone produced a personal best of 1:08.41 to relegate the Garioch 21-year-old to a rare second place. The 20-year-old Commonwealth Games swimmer led from the start, but won by just 0.37 secs. She said: "I could hear the commentator saying that Hannah was closing and I thought "oh no' but it was great to touch first."

Renwick received physiotherapy on his shoulder at the end of the evening, but is expected to be fit for his attempt to add the 100m and 200m freestyle golds.

Warrender's Lewis Smith won gold in the 100m individual medley and 15-year-old Fiona Donnelly was victorious in the 800m freestyle.
