Swimming: City star McNally chasing double sprint gold at Scottish Championships

Warrender swimmer Craig McNally, who turned 18 last month, aims to build on his Commonwealth Games experience and starts the new year by chasing a golden double at this weekend's British Gas Scottish Short-course Championships at Glasgow's Tollcross Leisure Centre.

The Balerno teenager is favourite to retain the 200 metre backstroke but also wants to win the 100m event. "Getting to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October was a shock, but a great experience," he said.

"I made the top 12 in both the 100m and 200m and swam personal best times, so it couldn't have gone much better. I'm now ranked seventh in GB and want to make it into the top three by the time of the Olympic trials next year. Then I will have a chance of making the London 2012 team. I'm an outsider, but I'm taking a year out and will be going all out for it." Scotland's Commonwealth Games Champions - Inverurie's Hannah Miley and City of Glasgow's Robbie Renwick - also want to start 2011 in style.

Miley, who also won the European Championship title in the 400m individual medley, aims for a massive haul of 11 titles starting this evening with the 100m breaststroke, 200m medley and 200m butterfly.

"The London Olympics are now just over 18 months away and is the next really big goal," she said.
