Summer slot for Glasgow Stakes

ONE of Hamilton Park's feature races of the season has received a double boost to its prospects of being fully supported in 2011 with the news it is to be run later in the summer and is also now open to fillies.

The revised schedule of The totepool Glasgow Listed Stakes to Thursday, 14 July from its original pre-Derby slot in May has taken advantage of a potential scarcity of opportunities for staying three year olds of Listed class who are not yet ready to take on the older horses. The Listed race will now form a double header with the popular John Smith's Fair Friday meeting taking place the following day - the two days are expected to offer over 120,000 in total prize-money. Ruth Quinn, Director of Racing for the British Horseracing Authority, said: "We thought it was worth taking a fresh approach to the Glasgow and giving it a slightly different role to play by moving it into the summer."
