Glasgow’s Subway will operate until the early hours of the morning during the two peak weekends of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

On Saturday, July 26 and July 27 athletes will be competing in 13 different sports venues across the city while the following Saturday sees eight sports being contested with four medals up for grabs on the Sunday, August 3 which is also the day of the closing ceremony.

It is understood the trains, which normally stop at 11.30pm mid-week and 6pm on a Sunday, could operate until 1.30am.

Eric Stewart, assistant chief executive of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, said: “It will be a very early start and very late finish.”
