Students in do-or-die title clash

The students of Edinburgh University and their Capital adversaries, Heriot- Watt University, clash tomorrow at Riccarton (2.00pm), with the Scottish Inter- Universities Championship and the historic Queen's Park Shield at stake.

Both clubs are locked on identical points and goal difference at the top of the five-team league. A 1-0 win in favour of Edinburgh would take the outcome into the remaining game for each university as Heriot-Watt beat Edinburgh 1-0 in their earlier head-to-head meeting.

Edinburgh have not lifted the Queen's Park Shield since season 1999-2000 - and Edinburgh's head coach, Douglas Samuel, said: "Tomorrow is an opportunity we did not expect although I should have known that there is always a twist each season in this competition. We know that it is a game we have to win and we would like to win it by two clear goals."

Michael Renwick, the Heriot-Watt head coach, added: "For the neutrals you could not have asked for a better end to the competition."
