Student champ Booth hails coach Robertson

DAVID Booth, the newly-crowned Scottish Universities’ champion, reckons Stirling University’s golfers will go from strength to strength under the leadership of Dean Robertson.

Booth heaped praise on Robertson, the former European Tour winner who is now Stirling’s golf performance coach, as the final-year student savoured a six-shot success at Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth.

“Dean has changed my game in the two years I have worked with him,” said the Englishman, who first made his mark in the home of golf when winning the Scottish Youths’ Championship in 2008. “He has taught me to shape the ball better and more consistently, trust my swing and play golf with freedom and without any worries.

“Dean has been there and done it so who better to learn from than him? In my eyes, Stirling will only get better with Dean in charge.”

Robertson was delighted to see Booth pick up the Jack Allan Trophy at Lossiemouth, saying: “His work ethic, general attitude and focus on close-in skills has payed dividends big time for him – and it couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke.”

It was another hugely successful week for Stirling on the Moray coast, where they also won the women’s title through Eilidh Briggs and both the team trophies.

“Eilidh has had a stunning year – she has been untouchable,” added Robertson of the 18-year-old, who completed a clean sweep in this season’s Scottish University Order of Merit events.
