The French giants, who are led by former Scotland coach Vern Cotter, travel to Scotstoun next Friday night and Rennie knows that a defeat would all but end Glasgow’s hopes of progressing from Pool 3.

Warriors lost their opening two fixtures, to Exeter Chiefs and Leinster, while Montpellier have been beaten by the same opponents, but picked up three bonus points.

Hogg, 25, was on top form as Scotland ran New Zealand close a fortnight ago. But he missed the Australia game after he pulled up in the warm-up and the hip issue is still ongoing.

“I am not sure if he will be back for Montpellier,” Rennie said. “He is going to have a scan to give us an understanding of the flexor injury and we will know a bit more over the next few days.

“We will give it a real crack at home against Montpellier because we take great pride in playing at Scotstoun.”
