Stuart Fraser: It was open day for the bungs at Millhall Fishery

I took the opportunity to visit Millhall fishery near Falkirk for the SANA Open Day..

As it was a fun day rather than a competition, I decided to fish from the bank and made for the dam wall.

Fish were moving on the surface, so I went with a Damsel to begin with and, although I got a couple of offers, I could not get them to stay on.

Moving round to the shallows I tried Buzzers, again without success, then went back to the lure.

I moved back on to the dam wall, tried a black tadpole-type pattern and success was only a few casts away.

It seemed as if everyone there that day managed to catch fish as rods were bending all the way around the water.

As I was on catch and release, my flies were debarbed which was only right and most of the fish were taken under the bung or on Buzzers fished on a very slow retrieve.

Although a lot of fish were caught from the boat, the bank was to prove the best option for many.

The fish were showing in the top 3ft of water but the takes were mostly deep and slow.

Although there was nothing really big caught, the sport was really good and everyone enjoyed the session whilst making new friends into the bargain.
