Strollers step up a gear to beat Thistle

Lothian started the better side and they were rewarded with a goal early in this game when Civil failed to deal with a ball into the box.

Burgess's attempted clearance landed at the feet of Young who had the simple task of smashing the ball into the net from close range.

Lothian thought they were going to have an opportunity to double their lead from the spot when the assistant referee appeared to award a penalty but the referee over-ruled this and gave Lothian a corner - a let off for Civil.

Lothian dominated the first half and Civil had very few chances on goal but Lothian couldn't double their lead before the half-time interval.

The second half started with a bang when Wilson made a great attacking run in the first minute before playing in Rennie, who broke the offside trap and his pace allowed him to break away and fire the ball into the net for Strollers' equaliser.

Civil then stepped up a gear and started playing some attractive football and they were rewarded with the winner when Burgess played a long ball into the Lothian box. The Thistle defence failed to clear the danger before Dickson got on the end of it and his delicate first-time chip over Swain ended up in the back of the net.

Strollers then enjoyed all the possession and Lothian couldn't find a way back into this game.
