Storm the bookies’ Fort by backing Burke’s lightweight

Fortification sneaks in at the bottom of the handicap for the Betfred Classic Chase and he can exploit his featherweight in the Warwick feature tomorrow.

The nine-year-old has been creeping up the ratings after turning in some decent efforts this term, not least when winning at Exeter on his seasonal bow.

Fortification saw off his rivals by 15 lengths and more that day, prompting trainer Keiran Burke to pitch him into the Southern National at Fontwell.

That looked a particularly decent renewal back in November with winner Giles Cross subsequently finishing second in the Welsh National.

Runner-up Rey Nacarado further franked the form when winning impressively at Newbury over the Christmas period.

Fortification found a couple of jumping errors cost him dear that day and if he had not lost valuable momentum, he could well have been closer to Giles Cross than the eventual two-length verdict.

Something was evidently amiss when he was pulled up at Kempton last time and it may well be that the decision to settle him at the back rather than assume his customary prominent role was partly to blame. Fortification has turned in his best performances when allowed to bowl along and a return to those kind of tactics should help his cause.

Emma Lavelle has won two of the last three renewals of the Neptune Investment Management Leamington Novices’ Hurdle and she can further enhance those statistics with Gullinbursti.

Court In Motion triumphed last year, while Labelthou was successful in 2007 and Gullinbursti can maintain his 100 per cent record for the yard as he makes the leap to Grade Two level.

Winner of an Irish bumper last term, he struck on his debut for Lavelle at Exeter in November before following up by just at neck at Hereford.

Gullinbursti got pretty close with subsequent winner Grand Vision that day and may have been slightly fortunate to keep the race but he looks a classy recruit and can gain a valuable victory here.

Shoreacres can star in the William Hill anzarote Hurdle Handicap, the ultra-competitive highlight at Kempton.

A winner over fences last term, Brendan Powell dropped him back to the smaller obstacles as a confidence-booster and he has excelled since making the switch.

Narrowly edged out by Our Father at Ascot before Christmas, he again suffered a narrow defeat the hands of Deireadh Re at Wincanton on Boxing Day.

Shoreacres deserves a bit of luck this time and should go well despite his elevated mark.

Woody Waller is the choice in Wetherby’s Yorkshire Post Ladies Day – 24th May Handicap Chase.

Tadabeer has gone up 5lb for his Lingfield success last month but that might not be enough to stop him in the Marsh Green Handicap back at the Surrey venue.

The four-year-old is a well-related individual but he was shipped out by Shadwell last July after finishing fourth on his only start for William Haggas.

Snapped up by Ian Williams at the July sales, Tadabeer showed up well on his first three starts before finally getting his head in front last time.

Tadabeer was just over four lengths clear at the line and he looks to be a horse with plenty more to come over middle distances.

Bronze Angel should be full of confidence after his recent triumph and can follow up in the Forest Row Handicap.

Placed in five previous starts, the colt registered his first victory at this track just over two weeks and can make a swift reappearance pay.
