Stirling University 2-2 Vale of Leithen: Vale's pressure pays off with late equaliser

STIRLING UNIVERSITY put their visitors under some early pressure in this top-of-the-table clash and went in at half-time a goal to the good thanks to a 21st-minute Lee Nicholl penalty.

Jacob Arnold-Smith drove into the box before being upended by a challenge from Vale's Paul Thomson. Nicholl dispatched the spot-kick low to the right of keeper Mark Wilson.

Vale came out after the break a team transformed and within five minutes of the restart had equalised, Darren Gillon popping up at the back post to fire home after Stevie Dongo headed an Andy Martin cross across goal.

The students re-established their advantage on the hour mark following a quick break upfield and Craig McLeish's shot from 25 yards deceived Wilson to sneak inside the post.

Vale pinned their opponents back in their own half for long spells and found an equaliser three minutes from time as Aaron Somerville glanced home a Martin corner.
