Stewart's Melville maintained their post-split unbeaten run and bolstered their survival bid when they saw off GHA in a competitive and highly entertaining Premiership C encounter at Inverleith.

A lively start by the hosts yielded three penalties for stand off Nick McCashin, whose weighty boot and strong running were the creative force behind much of what his side achieved throughout the afternoon.

His next effort clattered back off the post but a GHA knock-on following the ricochet led to a scrum from which Scott Riddell and Rob Patterson combined to send Liam Steele darting in for a try which McCashin converted.

A spell of GHA pressure produced a penalty which was quickly taken and spun wide and recycled to Andy Rushforth who crashed over at the corner.

Having turned round with a 16-5 advantage, the Edinburgh side extended their lead with a fourth penalty from McCashin.

GHA finished with a flourish and skipper Niall Cassie clawed back five points but an immediate riposte from Hayden Lingard secured a valuable win.
