Steve Turnbull extends Edinburgh deal

EDINBURGH lock Steve Turnbull has become the latest player to extend his contract with the Magners League side.

The 22-year-old has followed Mike Blair, Allan Jacobsen, Chris Paterson and Greig Laidlaw by singing a new two-year deal.

Turnbull has made 11 appearances this season after his debut professional campaign was wrecked by a broken ankle. The second-row forward said: "At the moment, the club is aspiring to win trophies and it is exciting to be part of that development."

Meanwhile, Watsonians hooker Fraser Brown, 20, and back-row forward Stuart McInally, 19, have signed their first professional contracts with Edinburgh. Brown, 20, has been restricted to just five first-team appearances for his club over the past two seasons because of injuries.

• The Ospreys have been cleared of fielding an ineligible player in the Heineken Cup. Tournament organisers European Rugby Cup Ltd informed the Welsh region they had "no case to answer" following an investigation into the registration of South African scrum-half Ricky Januarie, who joined the Ospreys on loan from Super 14 outfit the Stormers at the end of November and played in four group games. Heineken Cup regulations say a player "must have at least a three-month contract with the club" to be eligible to play in the tournament. The Stormers' website announced on 26 November Januarie was moving on a two-month deal.
