Stephen Gemmell laments lack of cutting edge after losses

SCOTLAND'S sevens coach Stephen Gemmell was disappointed with his side's efforts after back-to-back defeats to Samoa and Kenya condemned them to third place in Pool C at the IRB Sevens World Series event in Las Vegas.

The Scots rallied to win their final group game against Chile and will now face Argentina in the quarter-finals of the Bowl today.

Speaking after the 41-12 loss to Samoa and the 17-0 defeat at the hands of the Kenyans, Gemmell said: "We made a disappointing start against Samoa where we lost some big physical battles.

"We played better in the second half and got ourselves back into the tournament against Kenya, but we lacked some cutting edge with Andrew Turnbull unavailable due to a stomach bug."

In Scotland's first game of the day, both Lee Jones and Craig Jackson touched down against Samoa with Jackson converting his own score.

Following a scoreless outing against Kenya, Scotland finally found their attacking form to beat Chile 26-10 with a brace of tries from Jones, followed by David Tait and Chris Kinloch touchdowns.
