Star man Dunbar agrees a two-year deal with Raith

NEWTONGRANGE STAR winger Joe Dunbar will be playing senior football next season after agreeing a two-year deal with Second Division Raith Rovers, the Evening News can reveal.

Dunbar, 24, has been a revelation for Newtongrange this term and helped them to the brink of promotion to the East Region Super League only for a win on the final day for Forfar West End to deny them.

His displays attracted the interest of several clubs and he spent time training with Hibs and Dunfermline recently, turning out in a reserve game for the Pars.

The Fife outfit were keen to take another look at him in pre-season before making a final decision on whether to offer him terms. However, with other deals on the table, both Dunbar and Star wanted something agreed before then and the winger will now join up with John McGlynn at Stark's Park.

Newtongrange boss Graeme Armstrong said: "I'm delighted for Joe and I think it's a good move for him. Joe is really pleased because he'll be going full-time which is something he has always wanted to do. I think he has the ability to go straight into their first team whereas if he'd ended up at Hibs or Dunfermline there could have been too much limelight on him. Hopefully he can do well."
