Stalemate despite chances for Tynie and Uni

A MINUTE'S silence was observed prior to kick off to mark the passing of Tynecastle stalwart Jim Lynch, who died last weekend.

The first real scoring opportunity of the game came on the half hour mark when McIntosh broke away and went one-on-one with Gilbertson, but the striker smashed the ball straight at the goalkeeper who saved well.

A few moments later Foster got on the end of a corner but his header from close range didn't have enough power on it to trouble Tait. Just before the interval Thom was lucky to escape any action from the referee after appearing to stamp on Fusco, an incident which upset the Uni dugout.

Eddie Mearns almost had a great start to the second half when he broke into Uni's box but his powerful shot was hit straight at Tait who gathered. Craigen then almost broke the deadlock but his shot which beat Gilbertson went just wide of the goals.

Oswald came off the bench and caused no end of problems for the Tynie defence but neither side was to find a breakthrough.
