Squash: Clyne flying high after win over Grant in Manchester

Alan CLYNE, who trains at the Heriot-Watt squash academy at Riccarton, claimed the best win of his career over England's No.4 seed Adrian Grant, to reach the quarter-finals of the British Championships for a first time at the National Squash Centre in Manchester.

The 24-year-old, currently ranked a lifetime best of No.47 in the world, beat the former world top ten player and Commonwealth Games doubles champion 11-6 11-9 11-9 to earn a last-eight meeting with the English No.?6 seed, Tom Richards. "It was the first time that I had played Adrian and this is definitely my best-ever win," said a delighted Clyne, who is coached by Scotland's National coach, Australian Roger Flynn.

"I kept the game at a high pace and it is really great to go through.

"I played Tom and lost to him in the qualifying for a tournament in Qatar last year, but this is the time for revenge. We know each other well because we both came through juniors together.

"I've had a really busy schedule recently and not had much time for training. But I think that playing a lot of matches has helped my confidence this week."
