We have positional dilemma on our hands with Man Utd's Scott McTominay

Every time you switch on the television to watch a bit of football – let’s face it, that’s most nights at present – it seems Manchester United are on and there’s a tall, blond Scot delivering a thrusting performance in midfield.

Now and again, these displays have also been augmented by a goal – two against Leeds in that 6-1 hammering, the sixth in the 9-0 win over Southampton in midweek. He’s also weighed in with his share of assists.

When not being poleaxed by a teenage assailant, as happened against Southampton, Scott McTominay is on fire. International matches are due to resume as soon as next month in the form of three World Cup qualifying fixtures so it’s good news for Scotland. It also presents manager Steve Clarke with something of a dilemma.

Is he really going to welcome McTominay back to the fray by shoving him in the direction of … right centre-half?
