Speed skating: Christie skates her way to gold-medal glory in Sweden

EDINBURGH-born Great Britain short-track speed skater Elise Christie won gold in the 1500m at the European
Championships in Sweden last night.

The 22-year-old, who had previously won European bronze in the 3000m relay, timed two minutes, 26.741 seconds, with Italy’s Arianna Fontana second.

Elsewhere, GB snowboarder Billy Morgan claimed a fourth place finish in the Slopestyle finals at the World Championships in Stoneham, Canada.

Morgan, who came fifth in the World Cup in Copper Mountain earlier this month, finished behind winner Roope Tonteri of Finland.

In Malmo, Christie will be hoping to add to her medal tally in the 500m on Saturday and the 1000m - her favoured event - on Sunday.

In the men’s event in Sweden, Briton Jon Eley finished third in his semi-final, just missing out on a place in the final.
