Spartans unbeaten as Whitehill keep up chase

Whitehill Welfare kept themselves in the chase to catch runaway leaders Spartans in the Central Taxis Premier Division when they beat Vale of Leithen 1-0 thanks to a late penalty from striker Scott Gormley.

Spartans maintained their unbeaten league form this season after a 4-1 win against Preston Athletic with goals from Jack Beesley, Keith McLeod, Alex King and Ross Archibald. Preston's marksman was Stuart Miller.

Edinburgh University remain in third position after they travelled to Selkirk and returned with all three points through goals from James Brownie (2), Dan Ward and Peder Beck-Friis.

Tynecastle had Wayne Sproule to thank for his penalty conversion in their 1-0 win over Civil Service Strollers.

Stirling University defeated fellow students at Heriot-Watt University 4-1, while Edinburgh City and Lothian Thistle drew 0-0.

First Division leaders Leith Athletic drew 3-3 with Ormiston, while Gretna 2008 overcame Peebles Rovers 3-0.
