Spartans stroll into semis

SPARTANS eased themselves into the semi-finals of the King Cup after goals from Dean Hoskins and Keith McLeod saw off Whitehill Welfare who had defender Allan Cornett sent off in the 50th minute.

They will be joined in the last four by Preston Athletic who won 1-0 away to Vale of Leithen thanks to a Stuart Miller header.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Heriot Watt University who beat Peebles 1-0 with a goal from Matt Travis and Tynecastle defeated Leith Athletic 3-0 with Brian Foster, Paul Devlin and Gary McCormack all scoring. Stirling University overcame Coldstream 2-1 at Home Park.

In the Central Taxis Premier Division, Selkirk lost 1-0 to Civil Service Strollers.

In the First Division, leaders Craigroyston were held to a 2-2 draw by Easthouses Lily, Gretna 2008 beat Hawick Royal Albert 6-0, Kelso United edged out Gala Fairydean 2-1 and Ormiston beat Eyemouth United 4-0.
