Spartans delighted with home Scottish Cup draw

Spartans have been rewarded with a home tie in the third round of this season's Scottish Cup against Forres Mechanics or East Stirlingshire who replay tomorrow after drawing 0-0 at the weekend.

Spartans beat Highland League leaders Keith last week and joint manager, Mike Lawson, said: "Whoever wins the replay, we will treat them with respect. Either way, we are pleased that we will be playing at Ainslie Park and that we have also avoided SFL Division One and Two clubs."

Boness United, conquerors of Queen's Park in the last round, are at home to Banffshire side Buckie Thistle. Bo'ness gaffer Willie Newbigging said: "There's so much at stake in this round. A place in the fourth round brings in the really big guns. At least we're at home in front of our superb supporters. They are like a 12th man to us."

Elsewhere, Preston Athletic - who replay their second round tie against Annan Athletic tomorrow - will travel to face Brechin City at Glebe Park if they can overcome their Third Division opponents.

"It could not have been much tougher because Brechin are sitting top of the Second Division," said Preston manager, Stevie Myatt who has just signed Bonnyrigg Rose left-sided player Bryan Wilson. "The prospect of playing Brechin will certainly give our players an extra impetus ahead of our game against Annan tomorrow."

In the other game involving East of Scotland League teams, Whitehill Welfare, should they beat Wick Academy tomorrow, will travel to face either Montrose or Arbroath. Welfare beat Arbroath 3-0 in a pre-season friendly.
