South Africans push for 'iconic' Tests

SOUTH Africa's cricket authorities will push forward a plan for future Test series against India to be granted "icon status" and consist of four matches rather than three.

The move comes after the two countries drew their third successive series 1-1. Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive officer, Gerald Majola, said: "This series was absorbing from start to finish. The high quality and huge popularity of the cricket points irresistibly towards ensuring that future tours between these two top teams in world cricket are granted icon status.

"This would entail four Tests between two teams that have produced cricket that will ensure the future of the game at this vital level."

Both countries are now preparing for a one-off Twenty20 in Durban on Sunday.
