Snooker: Young Scots in the frame

FIVE young Scots snooker players have made it through the tough qualifying stages of the Lt Col Walter Rowley OBE Junior Star of the Future Festival at Pontin's World Snooker Centre in Prestatyn, Wales.

Anthony McGill (Glasgow) and Eden Sharav (Alloa) both won their groups in the 15 to 20-year-old age group, while Bonnyrigg's Michael Leslie and Rhys Clark of Stonehouse are also through in the same event.

Ross Muir (Musselburgh) has also qualified for the last-32 stage of the under-14 section.

Leslie had to win a last-frame decider close to midnight last night to secure his place in the knockout stages and can still win his group if he wins today's play-off with Sean O'Sullivan (England) for a top-seed position in the last 32.

Edinburgh's Robert Carlisle, who was in the same group, has a play-off today against Damian Wilkes for a place in the last 32.
