Snooker: Trump holds off Allen for biggest win

Judd TRUMP was today celebrating the biggest triumph of his burgeoning career after a thrilling win over Mark Allen in the williamhill.com UK Championship final.

The 22-year-old from Bristol saw an 8-3 and a 9-5 lead almost wiped out by Allen in last night’s exhilarating finale to their York Barbican Centre clash. Allen got back to 9-8, but he left a half-chance for Trump after missing a difficult red and the Northern Irishman had to squirm in his seat as the World Championship runner-up made a title-clinching break of 91.

Trump labelled Allen a potting “machine” as the man from Antrim fired in four century breaks in the match. But the trophy and a cheque for £100,000 went Trump’s way, and the new champion said: “To win it the way I did is a brilliant achievement. Mark pushed me all the way. It’s a good job I had a big lead in that last session.

“It feels amazing. It was a brilliant game.”
