Snooker: Star Muir aiming for U-16 title

Musselburgh's Ross Muir will be aiming to go one better this season when he cues up on Sunday for the first event of the Scottish Snooker under-16 series sponsored by Midlothian company JMConservatories.co.uk.

Muir finished second in the under-16 rankings last season after a titanic battle with Perth's Scott Donaldson, only missing out by losing in the final of the National Championship. However, with Donalson too old to compete this year, Muir will feel he can go one better.

He will face a tough battle this season with the emergence of some strong competition from the West of Scotland. Muir meets the improving Dylan Craig (Glasgow) in the semi-final at the Lucky Break Club in Clydebank. Craig was the Under-14 National Champion last season. The other semi-final is an all-Clydebank affair between Dylan Gault and Joseph McLaren, with the winner sure to have the home support behind them in the final.

The event on Sunday is the first of six ranking events which will be played across Scotland at under-16 level.
