Snooker: Muir suffers double defeat

Ross Muir (Musselburgh) lost 4-0 to 14-year-old Joseph McLaren (Clydebank) in the final of Event 1 of the Scottish Under-16 Snooker Series sponsored by JMConservatories.co.uk.

Muir, who was favourite to lift the title, was beaten by McLaren in the final at the Lucky Break Snooker Club in Clydebank.

It is McLaren's first title at national level. Muir also experienced disappointment in the East of Scotland Championship at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh, losing 3-1 to former Scottish National Champion, Gary Thomson of Glasgow who faces Craig McGillivary of Edinburgh for a place in the last 16. Edinburgh's Robert Carlisle beat Crawford Mitchell (Falkirk) in the first round while Edinbugh's Stuart Johnstone won 3-0 against Fraser Kelly (Borders).
